Fun Without Spending a Fortune: How to Enjoy Yourself at Home
Stuck at home wondering how to keep yourself entertained? And, importantly, not to burn a hole in your wallet? I’ll show you some budget-friendly activities. These pastimes require little to no financial input. But, the enjoyment is priceless!
Affordable Fun at Home: My 5 Favorites
1. Casual or Real-Money Games
Many think of online games as being expensive. I can assure you: no need to spend big to enjoy it. There are lots of games that are
- free
- cheap (you can play with just $1)
- rewarding (games at Casino777 let you make money if you are lucky)
If you are new to real money games, I’d suggest starting with the Glam Life title, which is known as A Journey Through Wealth and Extravagant Bonuses. It’s fun and simple enough.
2. Video Games: Fun for Free or Cheap
Why to include games two times? Well, playing a game is perhaps the most exciting activity and, luckily, there are different game types available. We’ve reviewed real money games and, next up, video games – another popular way to pass the time. There are plenty of free-to-play options out there. Take titles like Fortnite and Apex Legends. They are completely free! But don’t let it confuse you. You might be surprised by how fun they are – I often find myself playing for hours!
Looking for some paid options? Then check out sales on gaming platforms. I usually go to Steam and the PlayStation Store. You can often find great titles at discounted prices. And don’t forget about indie games. They’re usually cheaper. But they are just as fun (or sometimes even better!).
Retro games are another cost-effective option. Many older games are available at lower prices. That nostalgic appeal is the reason why I go for them.
3. Streaming Services: Watch Without Spending a Lot
Moving on to streaming. For starters, there are free streaming services – like Pluto TV and Tubi. They offer movies and TV shows – all at no cost. Here, I always find something to watch and don’t pay for a subscription.
Prefer paid services? It’s easy to choose one that fits your interests. Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ all offer different types of content. Some services also allow you to share accounts with others – family or friends. A heads up – check and follow their sharing rules.
4. DIY Fun: Get Creative at Home
Okay, and how about making your own fun at home? Like setting up a home theater for a movie night? We did it with friends last month – a memorable night. Popcorn, our favorite snacks, and good company. What else can you ask for? Enjoy a film like you’re at the movies.
Board games and puzzles are also great. No need for the latest game to have a good time. Classics like Monopoly or Scrabble are always a hit. Plus, they usually cost less.
Enjoy being creative? Then try a DIY project! Painting, crafting, or writing – it’s all good for your creative spirits, and it costs very little. And that feeling of making something unique… Most of us lack it in our everyday lives.
5. Virtual Events and Communities: Connect Online
Wrapping up our exploration are virtual events. My personal recommendations? I’m a fan of online trivia nights and book clubs. But, you can consider other virtual gatherings. Most of the time, they’re free. Not to mention that they’re ideal for meeting people or hanging out with friends.
Learning something new can also be exciting. Websites like Coursera and Khan Academy offer free courses on a range of topics. Pick up a new skill or just explore something you’re curious about — there are free options for any use case.
