Magic: The Gathering – An Intro to Red Planeswalkers
The trading card game (TCG) Magic: The Gathering is a strategy game where two or more players duel as wizards called Planeswalkers, casting spells and summoning creatures to beat their opponents. The game has five different colours and each has a different gameplay approach. Red is associated with chaos, speed, intense emotion – particularly anger – individual freedom, and the elements of fire and earth.
In Magic: The Gathering red cards are the most aggressive colour you can choose, and this means that it is considered to be the best colour for those players who are looking to win as quickly as possible.
Every pack in the game offers a range of different cards, among which are the Planeswalkers. There are 36 Planeswalkers linked to the red mana colour in total so let’s look at some of the red Planeswalkers you may want to consider for your red deck.
Chandra Nalaar
A free-spirited, impulsive, and incredibly powerful character, Chandra Nalaar hasn’t finished growing into the hero that she is destined to become. She is capable of conjuring naturally, and, when she finds herself faced with a challenge, she is the kind of person who acts first and thinks later. Chandra believes that everyone has the right to the freedom needed to make their own choices. When she is confronted by oppression, she is almost incapable of standing aside. Her heart is in the right place, but all too often, Chandra’s hot-headed nature makes the problems more difficult than they need to be as she attempts to solve them. However, the occasional misstep is not nearly enough to quench her passion, optimism, or indeed her smart-mouthed levity.
Daretti
Daretti, having been away for some time, has returned to Fiora (a plane in the Magic: The Gathering multiverse, known for its political intrigue and power struggles) in order to reshape the power structures of Paliano (the High City of Fiora), the very thing that denied him his aspirations. His scheming and manipulation were responsible for the disbandment of the Academy, and they were instrumental when it came to instigating the goblin riots. This was not only to overturn the current leadership of Paliano but also to root out those former members of the Academy who might now be lying low in the city.
Intrigued yet! Here’s a quick journey through the history of Magic The Gathering to help you discover more about how this strategic and challenging game came about.
Jaya Ballard
Jaya Ballard is one of the oldest Planeswalkers that you will find in the Multiverse. Born over 1500 years ago on Dominaria, she was a hot-headed, sarcastic hero and played an essential part in the early history of the plane before disappearing for centuries. In recent years, she has resurfaced as an altogether older and wiser mentor to a range of fledgling pyromancers. Amongst these is her most promising student: Chandra Nalaar.
Koth
A freedom fighter, Koth of the Hammer is waging war against an extra-planar evil that has ruthlessly conquered his native plane. Whilst his cause may appear to be lost, he steadfastly refuses to abandon what remains of his people. He continues his fight against the almost overwhelming odds, burying his foes beneath heavy avalanches of stone or incinerating them in rivers of burning molten lava, all in the hope of protecting survivors and punishing the monsters responsible for destroying his home.
Rowan Kenrith
Within the Multiverse, Rowan Kenrith and her brother Will are unique. They are the only Planeswalkers that are known to share a Spark, which gives them the ability to travel between different planes of existence ans survive the chaotic space between planes. But wherever one of them goes, the other one must follow. Trained as a knight, Rowan uses electrical magic in order to charge her blade with arcane energy which she also uses to trap, stun, or even shock her opponents. Rowan has the ambition and drive to eclipse the accomplishments of her royal parents and also to achieve greatness as a hero in her own right.
Tibalt
Tibalt is a sadistic, interplanar menace who greatly revels in the suffering of others. He brings misery and conflict with him wherever he goes and to all he encounters. Though he was born human on Innistrad, his insatiable fascination with all forms of pain drove him to the point where it was necessary to explore fiendish magic. This ultimately transformed him into the half-devil that he is now.
These are just some of the Red Planeswalkers that are worth taking a look at within the game. They will make a great addition to any deck in this fascinating trading card game..
